Rhythm & Renovations
In June 2015, Third Street began a major renovation project that is transforming the school and setting the stage for the future.
With the first phrase of our multi-year renovation project finished, Third Street is proud to have two brand-new spaces for performance in our East Village home! What was once the Anna-Maria Kellen Auditorium has been transformed into a 21st century Concert Hall with adjustable seating for 300 audience members, new sprung floors, theatrical lighting and movable acoustic panels built into the walls to perfectly shape the sound of each concert and performance.
Downstairs in our former boiler room, you'll find our new state-of-the-art Recital Hall with its high ceiling and fabulous acoustics, primed for music and dance performances and practice. This new space not only doubles Third Street's space for performance but, with its adjoining recording studio and media lab, offers students a brand-new opportunity to learn about sound engineering and production with a new curriculum launching in fall of 2016!
Phase II of the renovation project begins in June 2016, and will bring with it even more fantastic transformations. A reconfigured lobby space will improve traffic flow, strengthen the school's safety, and increase the school's waiting area for students to work on homework or just hang out. The basement level which houses the Recital Hall and a number of large classrooms will be renovated to include a lobby and reception area and a modernized, passenger-operated elevator in giving our students, parents and visitors greater access to all of the school's floors.
If you are interested in making a contribution in support of this $5.3 million renovation project, you can donate online here or pick up a campaign brochure at the reception desk to learn more. When you donate, please designate your funds to "Rhythm and Renovations Capital Campaign." Your support and your patience as we make these exciting changes are both greatly appreciated.
